><> Fishackathon 2022
Protecting the world’s oceans
is now more urgent than ever.
Our oceans, rivers and lakes are critical to our survival and prosperity. Our consumption of seafood has doubled in the last 50 years, mostly from the farming of aquatic animals and plants, and one in ten people in the world derive income directly or indirectly from the fishing, farming and seafood industries.
Yet human activity has significantly impacted the health of our blue planet. Overfishing, physical and chemical pollutants, slave labour, wastes, and the effects of climate change threaten not only aquatic life but also our own lives and livelihoods.
Although awareness of the challenges our oceans, rivers and lakes are facing has grown, there is still the need for wider action, cooperation, and innovation to restore our aquatic environments and ensure they, and the seafood industry, are managed and operated in a sustainable and responsible manner for future generations.
The Fishackathon is a global programme that engages communities of passionate innovators and inspires mass collaboration to address aquatic related challenges with sustainable, tech-enabled solutions.
If you have an idea that can help save our blue planet we want to hear from you!
Applications for Fishackathon 2022 are now closed. We will get in touch with applicants about subsequent steps. In the meantime, please send your questions to divakar@padang.co.

Eachmile is a Singapore-based company using data and technology to bring sustainable seafood products to market along with their stories back to the source - that difficult-to-reach ‘first mile’. Eachmile has created and developed a range of technologies, including the Fishcoin Project, mFish and the underlying TRACE Protocol Platform, to create meaningful incentives for small-scale fishers and farmers to provide data about their harvest and implement more responsible, ethical, and sustainable practices.
